About Me

I am a high school student on a mission to share ASL. A couple of years ago, I started learning in order to communicate with my deaf baby sister (whom I love more than anyone and would do anything for). But I soon came to love the language and started learning it more out of enjoyment than obligation.

Have you ever seen someone translating a song into ASL? Particularly a fast one? It almost looks like they're dancing. In fact, it's surprisingly easy to think that they are! Seriously, look it up—it's crazy awesome*! And because I love to dance, learning ASL was a field day. When you start to use your entire body to sign, it becomes so much fun, and I quickly found myself sign-dancing (admittedly, I have to skip over about half the words because I just can't keep up) to songs. I truly believe that learning a language has never been more fun!

This is why I've decided to start an ASL club—I want to share the joy that I've discovered from learning this language. I'm a fairly introverted person who stutters a bunch when I'm nervous, so I find it's easier for me to express my emotions when I sign (however limited it is) than when I just speak. I think that sign language can help people communicate better and find joy in everyday communication, just like I have.
